The Environmental Issue –
Haltwhistle Burn, Wildlife Haven,
Recreational Facility or Tourist Attraction?
- The Burn is a haven for wild life which thrives best undisturbed.
- · The Burn Walk is well used by local people who treasure its quiet wildness.
- · Many dog walkers use the path. Dogs running through a woodland area are known to
have a dramatic impact on wildlife.
- · The new paths and bridges mean that far more people can now use the Burn.
- · Haltwhistle need to increase its revenue from tourists, attracting them down the
Burn walk from the Roman wall sites into the Town.
- · More people mean more noise and more rubbish.
- · More people mean more who care.
These are just some of the issues which those involved in The Burn Project are discussing.
Children can be involved in a real life issue which will have a genuine bearing on
the local area they will inherit.
